My jacob sheep has two messsed up horns. One is growing towards the eye and if gets much longer will prolly touch and one is growing backwards, Not to mention her horns are all split so we are just going to dehorn her all the way.
l know that her horns are like that because of interbreeding but l still love her. Please help!

How do you dehorn a sheep

It depends on whether u want to completely remove the horn so that it will never grow back again, or just keep 'tipping' it & taking the bulk of it away so it is more manageable.

Tipping is easiest, u get some embryotomy or foetotomy wire & use it to saw through the horn, at least a few centimetres away from the base of the skull. This lets u cut back the horn without needing a local anaesthetic.

Doing a proper dehorning needs a veterinarian present because she will need a local anaesthetic, & the surgery opens up the sinuses of the head making it prone to infection.

You need to be able to restrain the sheep well in both cases, but unless he definitely can not have even a tiny bit of horn, tipping is easier.
